Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

12.  How are home recipients selected?

Our Cambodian home recipients are selected in consultation with local village and commune chiefs and officials.  Each family is interviewed to understand their situation and needs. We serve the poorest of the poor -- many families survive on less than $3.50 USD/day.

13.  Do home recipients sign a contract?

A contract for each house recipient is signed by the recipient, the village official, the commune official, and by B4B. The contacts are designed to protect the house recipients to ensure that they do not lose possession of their new home, or to have it unfairly encumbered financially by debt.

4.  How much does it cost to build a home?

Based on our 2023 building season a standard 4m x 4m home, including an outhouse, and starter package costs about $4,400 US or $6,000 Cdn.

Many home recipients contribute "sweat equity" in the construction of their homes.

5.  Who builds the homes?

Most of the construction labour is provided by local contractors and workers.  B4B believes that providing jobs is an important part of building a sustainable model.  B4B provides supervision, training and oversight.
